Sonal Chauhan is better known as the Jannat girl, thanks to her debut film’s huge success and her great pairing with the film’s hero, Emraan Hashmi.

The actress has been quite busy post the film’s release last year. She tells Nithya Ramani where she’s been and what she’s up to. Read on:

Where have you been after Jannat?

I have been shooting for my next film with M F Husain. It is directed by his son Owais. I’m also shooting for a Kannada film.

How has Jannat changed your life?

Jiah Khan seems to be having a tough time in Bollywood and has been thrown out of a movie yet again. Jiah was signed by Owais Husain son of celebrated artist M F Hussain for his directorial debut. But Owais suddenly found Jiah not to be fit for the role and replaced her with Sonal Chauhan in the untitled movie which also stars Anurag Sinha of Black and White fame.

We didn’t know if Abhishek Dutta would make it to his show, after he was bashed up in an incident of road rage on Saturday morning. But the designer did turn up, with his son in tow, and boy, did he have an ace up his sleeve!

The collection, called Tree of Life, was well-received, and when showstopper Sonal Chauhan, of Jannat fame, walked onto the ramp, the audience clapped as it is wont to do, expecting it to be the finalé. Then, the surprise came. Film-maker Rituparno was supposed to be a front-bencher donning a new look at the show, but the man turned up on the ramp itself! And as soon as he stepped in wearing an embossed leather jacket and yogi pants, the catcalls and applause were simply deafening. People may be touting Sonal Chauhan to be a one film wonder, but the actress is harping a ‘wait-and-watch’ mantra these days.

The girl who is maintaining a low profile is excited about the ace she has up her sleeve. The Jannat heroine is apparently doing a flick with John Abraham. Yet to be titled, this venture, we hear is an out-and-out action flick and that is what Sonal is so ‘kicked’ about! “I didn’t want to sign on films just for the sake of signing some. The wait at last seems worth it,” she said. The girl does think she is on the right ‘beat’, and for her sake, we hope so, too.
